This seminar aims to shed light on the political and social transformations taking place in contemporary North Africa. By creating a forum for discussion and reflection on the student question, the aim is to understand how the worldviews and experiences of participation and mobilisation that are shaped at university have a lasting impact on life trajectories, the relationship between those who govern and those who are governed, the collective actions that undermine political power and the formation of leaderships. After the massification of the 1980s, higher education was hit by neo-liberal reforms which, far from meaning 'less state', actually increased the control of political and administrative powers. Nonetheless, student worlds remain spaces of freedom, of geographical and social mobility, and places for learning about public and political life.
