MUSEO-POLIS
Museums, Democracy and Citizenship in Southern Europe (16th-20th century) is an inter-laboratory seminar (TELEMMe-IDEMEC-MESOPOLHIS) supported by the MMSH within the framework of interdisciplinarity and in partnership with the CIVIS Alliance, the European University, the SOMUM Institute and the MUCEM.
Cycle of 8 online seminars (2 hours - ZOOM session / 3-4 trainers), organised by 3 universities in the CIVIS Consortium (Aix-Marseille Université, Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Università Sapienza di Roma)
Scientific coordinators: Nicolas Morales (Aix-Marseille University, TELEMMe, CNRS), Roberto Quirós (Universidad Autónoma de Madrid), Elena Valeri (Università Sapianza di Roma)
Following an interdisciplinary approach, this cycle aims to experiment with a new cross-disciplinary course, based on research in the Humanities and Social Sciences, by offering students in the CIVIS Consortium (bachelor's, master's, doctorate) the opportunity to analyse the contemporary history of the relationship between museums and democracy, and in particular the processes of representation and legitimisation of democratic identities under construction or in crisis since the emergence of the European project in the twentieth century, drawing on a wide range of disciplines, such as political history, the history of cultural institutions, political science, art history, sociology, law, anthropology and philosophy.
English and the participants' natural language (French, Spanish, Italian) will be used to encourage multilingualism.
