Miriam Gutekunst holds a doctorate in European ethnology (2017). She is postdoctoral researcher at the Institute for Cultural Analysis and European Ethnology at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU).

🔎 Title and summary of research project :

Ethnographic analysis of feminist struggles against gender violence in post-migratory societies

Phenomena such as "forced marriage" and "female genital mutilation" have increasingly become the focus of feminist engagement in Europe since the 1990s. These forms of gender violence are presented as "culturally based" and associated with migrant women. As a result, feminist initiatives that combat these phenomena are crucial spaces for the (re)production and negotiation of knowledge about the relationship between gender and cultural difference.

This knowledge of gender is the focus of this ethnographic research project. The aim is to contribute to the analysis of feminist practices and discourses in post-migration societies. The qualitative study is situated at the intersection of research on gender and migration, feminist movements and postcolonial implications. The project is funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (project number 492003373, 2022-2027).
