Issue summary:

To mark the 40th anniversary of the magazine, which was founded in 1985, this issue explores the trajectories followed by cultural research, in particular through the lens of the 147 issues of Culture & Recherche.

Public policy and the history of administered research are examined through the prism of an epistemological approach to the higher education and cultural research ecosystem.

To initiate this retrospective analysis and identify future directions, stakeholders and strategy-makers, teacher-researchers and professional experts from the Ministry of Culture will present the progress of research policies over the last few decades: "where we have got to and where we are going".

Three main themes emerged from this discussion:

  • Changing ways of producing and transmitting knowledge;
  • Transforming the higher education and research ecosystem;
  • Ways of promoting cultural research.

It is no longer just a question of producing knowledge. It's essential that we understand the complexity of our environment and support our ability to act in fast-changing contexts.

New ways of disseminating and sharing scientific and educational output with all research establishments and structures are playing a full part in building a knowledge-based society that is valued throughout the world.
