The Cargo project, led by artists Anne de Giafferri and Christian Delécluse, in partnership with researchers from the Iremam (UMR 7310) and Mesopolhis (UMR 7064) laboratories and students from Aix-Marseille University, is part of a resolutely interdisciplinary and experimental approach that seeks to use stories of the Mediterranean crossing to show immigration in the making, through the prism of words, stories and soundscapes.
To this end, it is questioning the relationship between artistic and academic approaches, based on a cross-analysis of the materials collected around the temporalities of the crossing and the production of a sound work. A joint installation will emerge from this innovative process, which will be co-constructed, shared, questioned and disseminated between artists, academics and the general public. It will take the form of a travelling maritime container, diverted from its logistical function in the globalised economy to be moored in the heart of several major Mediterranean cities, offering a space for discovering and immersing oneself in artistic, visual and sound creations.
This project, which takes a fresh look at the question of mobility, identity and belonging in the Mediterranean, takes a sensitive look at crossing, navigation, migration and, more generally, at the exchanges between peoples that have nurtured Mediterranean civilisations, between past and present.
