Details

The MESOPOLHIS doctoral students' organising committee is pleased to invite you to the following events Doctoriales 2023 from 9 to 12 October. The Mediterranean Centre for Sociology, Political Science and History is organising this new event to bring together all the members of this UMR. The programme put together by the organising committee aims to encourage exchanges between tenured and young researchers from all disciplines at three meetings at the MMSH: the inaugural conference (09/10); the «Managing your money, managing your thesis» workshop (10/10); and the post-thesis workshop (11/10). Throughout the three-day event interventions by doctoral students will be taking place, to present their research and encourage discussion around it. Finally, on 12 October, we invite you to the workshop entitled “Écriture alternative de la sociologie : focus sur l'image”, organised as part of the international meetings of the Association internationale des sociologues de langue française (AISLF), this time on the Schuman site.
Opening lecture - Hélène THIOLLET, « Migration as crisis. Thinking about data and discourses on migration and asylum in Europe and elsewhere »(MMSH). The inaugural Doctoriales 2023 will focus on the «crisis» of migration issues in Europe and elsewhere, and the processing of data and discourse on migration and asylum issues. Hélène Thiollet is a CNRS research fellow at the CERI (Centre de Recherches Internationales, Sciences Po) and works on migration policies in the countries of the South, with a particular interest in the Middle East and sub-Saharan Africa. This event will look at the geopolitics of migration and asylum and the construction of migratory crises in Europe.
Workshop - «Managing your money, managing your thesis» (MMSH). The aim of this workshop is twofold. Firstly, we will look again at the practicalities of funding our research within the laboratory, with contributions from Adrien Chateaureynaud, General Secretary of MESOPOLHIS, and Stéphanie Meiranesio, Administrative and Financial Manager. This will be an opportunity to go over the administrative procedures to be followed when applying for funding or leaving for our fields (mission orders, statement of expenses, etc.). Secondly, we will be welcoming Emilie David, Equality Coordinator at Sciences Po Aix, and Eve d'Andrea Poussard, SUMPP-AM occupational psychologist, who will be talking about issues relating to well-being during the thesis. Working on a thesis can give rise to problems with colleagues and other researchers, as well as problems linked to stress and anxiety, etc. The speakers will help us to think about these issues and present the resources available to us at our home institutions.
Workshop - «Valorisation, popularisation and post-thesis» (MMSH). Many of us are wondering how to communicate about our research and are trying to find new ways of doing so, both during and after our theses. We are also aware that the post-doctoral period starts as early as the PhD stage, so the committee decided to organise a workshop to present examples of ways of promoting and popularising our work and the opportunities available to young PhDs when they graduate. Based on the presentation of practical tools and feedback from members of the laboratory, the aim of this workshop is to inform and advise doctoral students on how to promote their work and find a job.
Finally, we invite you to come to the Schuman site on Thursday from 9.00am to take part in the workshop " Alternative writing in sociology: focus on images " organised as part of the AISLF's international meetings. You can find the detailed programme here somum.hypotheses.org/19602. Please note! You must register to take part before 2 October 2023. You can do so by click here.
