Study day : Ritualisation of transgressions and normativities in Euro-Mediterranean public spaces
Date Monday 28 February 2022 from 10.30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Location CEFRES and online
Languages French and English
Organisers Michèle Baussant (CNRS, CEFRES), Yoann Morvan (CNRS, MESPOLHIS), and Alessandro Testa (Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University, associate researcher at CEFRES)
This study day focuses on the ritualisation of transgressions and forms of normativity in Euro-Mediterranean public spaces. It proposes to think about Europe from the anthropology of religious phenomena and rituals, both as factors in the cultural, symbolic and spatial sharing and division of Euro-Mediterranean spaces. In particular, the processes of secularism and secularisation, of 'de-secularisation' or 're-enchantment', or of the political and/or social maintenance of the religious will be examined. The discussion will also focus on the logics of encounters, hybridisations, tensions and transgressions between different religious actors and practices, both in the case of majority groups and minority or minority groups, within public spaces that are often intended to be pluralist and multicultural, in Central, Eastern and Southern Europe.
