This Axis 3 «Religion and politics in the contemporary world» explores the transformations of Islamic mobilizations in Indonesia from the XXᵉ to the XXIᵉ century, articulating long history, national issues and transnational circulations. It analyses the tensions between vernacular Islam and Middle Eastern references, from the founding debates of the Muslim movement to the contemporary policies of ’Islam Nusantara«. Finally, the contributions examine the conflicts of legitimacy, authority and identity at the heart of contemporary Indonesian Islam.
