Antoine Vauchez is director of research at the CNRS in political sociology and law. He is a member of the Centre Européen de Sociologie et de Science Politique (EHESS - Université Paris 1 Sorbonne). His research focuses on the formation of a European centre of power, the emergence of bodies of legal and economic knowledge about the European project and the consolidation of a «power of independence» around the European courts of justice, central banks and regulatory agencies. More recently, he has been working on the European and liberal transformation of states and the blurring of the boundaries between public and private. His publications include Researching the European Court of Justice. Methodological Shifts and Law's Embeddedness, Edited by Mikael Rask Madsen, Fernanda Nicola, Antoine Vauchez, Cambridge University Press, 2022, 374 pages; (with Pierre France) Public sphere, private interests. Investigation into a major scramble, Paris, Les Presses de Sciences Po, «Domaine gouvernance» collection, 2017, 196 p
In this seminar, we will look back at Antoine Vauchez's scientific career, focusing in particular on the political sociology of government through regulation that he is developing through the study of new forms of public-private government that are being invented in the regulatory agency state (the Competition Authority, the CNIL, the High Authority on Transparency in Public Life, etc.). This work highlights the existence of interstitial spaces of government that help to «blur» the boundaries between public and private. They are being disseminated beyond the scientific field, giving us the opportunity to share with the guest a collective reflection on political scientists in the city.
