Summary:

The diagonal of emptiness, fertility rate, employment, migration, natural increase, coastal development, peri-urbanisation... These words from geography have entered the public arena where, over time, they have lost some of their scientific roots and their reality.

It's been a long time since an atlas of the French population has been published, even though INSEE data continues to pour in and studies abound.

The work of a team of scientists, this book not only takes up the challenge of producing nearly 160 new, updated maps that take account of recent developments, but also describes and analyses them. In around thirty chapters, all the key themes are dealt with at the level of mainland France and its DROMs, taking care to provide a systematic global view, enhanced by valuable local zooms.

A book that will change the facts and shake up many preconceived ideas.
