Book summary:

Looking at the Earth as both vulnerable and threatening, this book invites us to become aware of the finiteness of the world. In the face of multiple ecological or technological crises, we may decide to return to the earth, but we do not choose the return of the earth. Excluding any fatalism, the book explores contemporary aspirations to reconnect with our common matrix or new common good in Europe and Japan.

International comparisons highlight the circulation of ideas and initiatives, and invite us to rethink the ways in which we are at one with the environments in which we live. Using a multi-disciplinary approach involving geography, sociology, philosophy and economics, the authors bring together different perspectives and experiences to shed light on a threefold concept of the Earth: a living territory, a nurturing soil and a shared environment.
