Book by Nicolas Badalassi: "History of European security since 1945".

Nicolas Badalassi, The history of European security since 1945. From the Cold War to the war in UkraineArmand Colin, February 2024, 256p.
Summary:
With the destabilisation of the Middle East, the migration crisis, terrorist attacks, the return of the Russian threat, Brexit and the election of Donald Trump, the decade of 2010 seemed to redefine the contours of European security, reminding us of the extent to which it rested on a fragile balance that had been gradually built up since the end of the Second World War.
This book looks back at the emergence and development of the principles, players and tools of this security. The aim of this summary is to take a long-term view of the mechanisms that determine the parameters of European security, focusing on the changes and continuities of the period from 1945 to the present day, whether in terms of the role of NATO and the United States, that of the USSR and Russia, the challenges of nuclear deterrence, disarmament and collective security negotiations, the ups and downs of European defence policy, the fight against terrorism or energy dependency on regions outside Europe.
By analysing these questions both thematically and chronologically, this book aims to provide the keys to understanding a major issue in international relations which, with the start of the war in Ukraine, has become a dramatic topical issue.
