Christelle Gramaglia (INRAE) will be presenting her work and her book Living with industrial pollution. Experiences and citizen metrology, published in 2023 by Presses de l'École des Mines, Paris. Through a series of surveys conducted in the Gulf of Fos in France, as well as in Spain and Portugal, the author analyses the everyday experiences of people living near polluting factories. She looks at the social and ecological consequences of chronic contamination and the changes in practices that are supposed to contain them. She also identifies avenues for collective recovery, arguing that the hybridisation of expert and lay knowledge, through experiments in participatory metrology, could help to define more attentive and precautionary ways of dealing with environmental and health risks.
