The second edition of the \u00ab Perspectives on socialisation in nursery school<\/strong> \u00bbwill be held at Campus Condorcet on\u00a0Monday 9 March 2026<\/strong>, in the presence of\u2019Eric Plaisance<\/a>,to mark the fortieth anniversary of the publication of his book,\u00a0The child, nursery school and society<\/em>\u00a0(PUF, 1986).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This day is organised by\u00a0Christophe Joigneaux<\/a>,\u00a0Ghislain Leroy<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Ariane Richard-Bossez<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This study day follows on from the first edition, which took place in 2019 at Paris 8 University (Study day: \u00abPerspectives on socialisation at nursery school\u00bb 18 June 2019 - Paris 8 University - CIRCEFT). To mark the 40th anniversary of the publication of \u00c9ric Plaisance's seminal work, l'Enfant, la maternelle, la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 (PUF, 1986), and in his presence, this second edition will review developments in nursery schools and the sociological and socio-historical work devoted to them. Jean-Claude Chamboredon emphasised the importance of studying how \u201cthe overall variations in the values and educational aims\u201d of nursery schools relate to \u201cchanges in the demand for early childhood education\u201d (Chamboredon, 1988, p. 83). For his part, Jean-No\u00ebl Luc (1988) stated: \u201cThis is an indispensable reference study for anyone interested in the recent past of the French nursery school. It is also a useful milestone in research, since it invites us to compare the patterns identified among certain Parisian teachers between 1945 and 1980 with the results of future surveys for other periods or using other samples and other sources\u201d. Four decades on, the presentations that will punctuate this day will undoubtedly help to illustrate these remarks and to envisage a long-term diachronic reflection on the evolution of the nursery school, by situating its present in relation to its past.
