This interdisciplinary study day (sociology, anthropology, history, political science, geography, law, linguistics) aims to explore the production of hegemony by Algerian power in relation to its margins from 1954 to the present day. Its aim is to examine contemporary Algerian society from the perspective of the identity imposed in the aftermath of the war of independence and the plural otherness that places certain groups in a position of subalternity: ethnic, linguistic and religious minorities, emigrants and immigrants.
The first section looks at the process by which this monolithic national identity has been constructed, paying particular attention to the experiences of political and sub-political protest, assertions of identity and the cultural demands of different population groups who find themselves in a minority\/minoralised position, such as Berber speakers, women and non-Muslim believers.
The second axis examines migration to and from Algeria through the prism of legislation, discourse and representations, practices and identity negotiations. The Algerian state tends, on the one hand, to intensify the feeling of marginalisation of some of its nationals wishing to leave the country by criminalising their migration plans; and on the other, to marginalise administratively and socially some of the foreign migrants arriving on its territory to settle there temporarily or permanently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
