At the instigation of Georges Gurvitch, he founded the sociology department at the Faculty of Arts in Aix-en-Provence in 1961 and surrounded himself with a teaching team that helped to establish this general sociology regionally. His archives, consisting mainly of lectures and research reports, provide an exceptional record of developments in the profession of sociology and the way in which research subjects are viewed over more than two decades.
