Abstract
Sociological studies of precarious activists outline the tensions between the political relevance of precariousness as a category and material instability for movements. This article tackles how precariousness is framed diversely by secondary schoolteachers in a region of Northern Italy when referring to their own situations. A qualitative perspective shows the practical ambivalence of precarious subjectivations for contention. Some framings favour individualized perceptions of labor instability, while others assess collective causes and support informal mobilizations, peer support and teachers' expertise. Under certain conditions, they favour limited-scale actions that can gain some cumulativeness.
